Aaron & Anita Tilton Memorial Endowed Scholarship

"Aaron Tilton was an attorney who worked on the Nuremberg Trials after serving in the OSS during World War II, before pursuing a very successful career as an attorney engaged in the private practice of law in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His wife Anita became a recognized expert on White House china and Chinese snuff bottles, and served as a docent for the Milwaukee Art Museum. Together they accumulated numerous works of original art and amassed one of the premier private art collections in the United States, including original art pieces from Marc Chagall, Paul Gauguin, Pablo Picasso, Georges Rouault, and Rube Goldberg‚ even outbidding the Mexican government to acquire an oil self-portrait of Jose Clemente Orozco. They shared their knowledge of art history with their nephew Dennis Tilton and instilled in him their love of art, as well as influencing him to pursue a career as a lawyer. He established this scholarship in 2016 in the their memory to be awarded to a continuing student with a minimum 3.0 GPA who has demonstrated an academic or career interest in art history, painting, or sculpture, and financial need.
