Andrew Vidal Memorial Scholarship

"The Andrew Vidal Memorial Scholarship was established in 2004 to honor Andrew and his love for learning. St. Louis area graduating high school seniors who exemplify the characteristics of service and academic excellence and who demonstrate unmet financial need at the postsecondary school they attend are welcome to apply. “The loss of one so young and early on their chosen path to success is immeasurable. It’s been 20 years since we lost our son, Andrew Vidal. His memory is still a huge part of us, and we are honored to continue to provide this scholarship in his name. Andy had a love of learning and a soft spot for those who may have been less fortunate to have the same opportunities he enjoyed in his much too short life. This scholarship is intended for those students who have a love of learning and need financial support to fulfill their dreams for the future.” Eligibility To be eligible, the applicant must: • be a graduating high school senior. • have a cumulative high school GPA of 3.25 or better. • be a resident of the St. Louis metropolitan area (Missouri Counties: St. Louis, St. Louis City, St. Charles, Jefferson, Lincoln, Warren, Franklin. Illinois Counties: St. Clair, Madison, Monroe, Bond, Calhoun, Clinton, Jersey, Macoupin) • plan to enroll full-time at an accredited, nonprofit, trade/technical school, two-year college, or four-year college or university in the United States. • demonstrate unmet financial need. In general, unmet financial need will be defined as the difference between the cost of attendance and the sum of the student’s grant aid from other sources, plus the Student Aid Index (as determined by the student’s Free Application for Federal Student Aid) Selection Recipients will be selected by the St. Louis Community Foundation based on the student’s commitment to, and academic preparation for, higher education; the quality of the essay(s); determination of financial need; and consideration of unusual circumstances.
