Program description
"Must be a current Senior (90+ credits) majoring in Biological Sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences. The Research Fellowship was established by Dr. Joseph T. Abate, who received his Bachelors degree in Biology (1991) from UB Department of Biological Sciences. He then went on to receive his DMD degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 1995. Dr. Abate has practiced in all phases of general dentistry in multiple states across the US. He is currently the Director of Dental Affairs at National Association of Veteran Affairs Physicians and Dentists. He has given numerous presentations on oral health and its relation to general health. We are grateful to Dr. Abate’s commitment to ensure the excellence of the undergraduate education in our department. The undergraduate research fellowship was endowed by Joseph T. Abate, DMD , with the intent of supporting the research experiences of undergraduate students in the Department of Biological Sciences. This fellowship aims to provide students currently in their senior year with financial support to facilitate undergraduate research, performed in the Department of Biological Sciences, during the academic year. The amount of fellowships depends on the application and available funds."

Where this information comes from
This page is published from University at Buffalo's own public scholarship portal (buffalo.academicworks.com), read and verified 2026-09-03. This is a different source from most of this site's listings, which come from IRS Form 990-PF filings — see how we source scholarships. Portals change between cycles, so always confirm current details on the source listing before applying.
Most listings on this site are compiled from the foundation’s own IRS Form 990-PF filing — the public record where foundations that accept applications must state who to contact, how to apply, any deadlines, and any restrictions. Listings under /award/ are a second, separate source: read directly from the foundation’s own public scholarship portal, with a link to that source on every page. Filings are annual and portals change between cycles, so details can change: always confirm the current deadline and requirements with the foundation before applying. This site is not affiliated with, authorized by, or endorsed by any foundation listed. Scholarship information here is free; we charge only for optional application coaching, and we never write your application for you.
