Cedric & Ethel Parker Scholarship

"The Cedric and Ethel Parker Scholarship Fund supports an annual scholarship for undergraduate students of merit in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Mrs. Parker was a proud graduate of the School (’28) and the Parkers were loyal supporters of and greatly involved in the University. Preference in selection is given to students who have outstanding academic merit and potential for success in the field. Who is eligible to apply? Declared School of Journalism and Mass Communication majors Seniors graduating in the spring or summer terms Who is not eligible to apply? Seniors graduating in December of the current term Donor Information Ethel Parker earned a Journalism BA in 1928, and an MA in Education and English in 1951. Her early career was spent at The Capital Times; later she became director of public information for the Dane County chapter of the American Red Cross. Cedric Parker spent his career of 43 years working at The Capital Times as a reporter, city editor, and managing editor. An accomplished investigative journalist, his stories covered a wide spectrum of controversial issues ranging from the late Senator Joseph McCarthy to the Ku Klux Klan. Cedric was also one of the founders of the Newspaper Guild, where he later served as president."
