Program description

"The Heinlein Family established this fund in honor of their son who was pursuing communication arts as a major at the time of his tragic death. Their hope is that “another young man or a young woman from the East Coast with Chris’s qualities —joie de vivre, love of family and friends, creativity, humor, and kindness—will have the chance to attend the University of Wisconsin at Madison and graduate with a degree in Communication Arts with the help of the Christopher Neal Heinlein Memorial Scholarship Fund.” Eligibility Criteria This scholarship fund provides one-time awards to sophomores, juniors, and seniors who have been admitted to the Communication Arts major and are continuing in the fall. Applicants should demonstrate the following character traits: good-natured, kind, personable, a sense of humor, hard working, and an interest in the arts. Academic and artistic achievement as well as financial need are considered. Preference will be given to students who come from urban areas of the east coast. Past recipients may apply. How to Apply In addition to completing an online application, students must provide a two-page statement describing their interests and achievements in the arts as well as a brief description of their financial need. Applicants must also identify a Communication Arts professor, instructor or teaching assistant who will serve as a reference for them. Applications are due Wednesday, March 4, 2026. References must also be completed by Wednesday, March 4, 2026. Visit program site"

Where this information comes from

This page is published from Wisconsin Scholarship Hub (UW-Madison)'s own public scholarship portal (wisc.academicworks.com), read and verified 2026-09-03. This is a different source from most of this site's listings, which come from IRS Form 990-PF filings — see how we source scholarships. Portals change between cycles, so always confirm current details on the source listing before applying.

Most listings on this site are compiled from the foundation’s own IRS Form 990-PF filing — the public record where foundations that accept applications must state who to contact, how to apply, any deadlines, and any restrictions. Listings under /award/ are a second, separate source: read directly from the foundation’s own public scholarship portal, with a link to that source on every page. Filings are annual and portals change between cycles, so details can change: always confirm the current deadline and requirements with the foundation before applying. This site is not affiliated with, authorized by, or endorsed by any foundation listed. Scholarship information here is free; we charge only for optional application coaching, and we never write your application for you.
