"Mathews attended John W. North High School in Riverside, where he excelled as a basketball player. He continued his playing career at Riverside City College, becoming a two-year starter, before transferring to UC Irvine. In June 2013, Mathews returned to his hometown as head coach at Riverside City College. Since then, he has continued to build on his legacy, amassing a 177-144 record at RCC as of the end of the 2024-25 season. Criteria: Must be enrolled at Riverside City College as a freshman or sophomore at the time of application Must be an active member of the men?s basketball team within the Athletics Department Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5"
