Program description

"Doris Weiss began taking classes at the College in 1987. As a senior citizen, she brought with her an extensive background in the arts and was a wonderful addition to the Art department’s classes, as well as an inspiration for the students. Her focus at the College was in painting and ceramics. Upon her death in January 1993, a memorial exhibition of her many art works was held at the College. Her children presented the College with a grant from her estate in order to set up a scholarship in her name for art students. Two students will be selected to receive $500 each. Eligible applicants must possess a minimum GPA of 2.5, have earned 24 or more credits at the College by the end of the spring semester, have completed 12 or more credits in studio, and be returning to the College in the fall. Finalists must submit a portfolio of 6 works of art from studio art classes at the College. Interested students are encouraged to submit their applications by March 1."

Where this information comes from

This page is published from Community College of Philadelphia's own public scholarship portal (ccp.academicworks.com), read and verified 2026-09-03. This is a different source from most of this site's listings, which come from IRS Form 990-PF filings — see how we source scholarships. Portals change between cycles, so always confirm current details on the source listing before applying.

Most listings on this site are compiled from the foundation’s own IRS Form 990-PF filing — the public record where foundations that accept applications must state who to contact, how to apply, any deadlines, and any restrictions. Listings under /award/ are a second, separate source: read directly from the foundation’s own public scholarship portal, with a link to that source on every page. Filings are annual and portals change between cycles, so details can change: always confirm the current deadline and requirements with the foundation before applying. This site is not affiliated with, authorized by, or endorsed by any foundation listed. Scholarship information here is free; we charge only for optional application coaching, and we never write your application for you.
