Dunaway Family Celebrating Excellence Scholarships

"Recipient must be enrolled full-time in the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy and will not be a previous recipient of the Dunaway Family Celebrating Excellence Scholarship. OVERVIEW In honor of Mark and Julie Dunaway, the Dunaway Family Celebrating Excellence Scholarships will serve as a lasting tribute to the vision and commitment of Mr. and Mrs. Dunaway who strive to broaden awareness of scholars and policy leaders who have advanced scholarship and leadership in core social science fields. The purpose of the scholarships is to raise student awareness of several successful African Americans who are doing amazing work but who are not generally well-known. The goal is to help students from all backgrounds become familiar with the backstories, work and contributions, and accomplishments of these African Americans. These scholarships are meant to celebrate excellence, and all students who are majors in the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy are encouraged to apply – regardless of ethnicity or race. Applicants are encouraged to tailor their responses to one or more of the following individuals. Each has the same application requirements. An overview has been provided for each person listed, including links to sample books, articles, videos, and podcasts with or about that person. Condoleezza Rice – First Female African-American US Secretary of State Coleman Hughes – Writer, Podcast Host, and Forbes 30 Under 30 Ian Rowe – Champion of Education for Disadvantaged Children Robert Woodson – Civil Rights Leader – Marched With MLK INSTRUCTIONS Applicants must do one of the following before responding: read one book by the person selected, or read at least two articles written by or about the person selected, or watch at least two video interviews with or about the person selected, or watch or listen to at least two podcasts with or about the person selected. Applicants will then indicate which individual(s) they have selected and submit their Word document"
