Earle D. Lyon Memorial Scholarship

"Earl D. Lyon never had the benefit of formal education, but left a legacy of love for nature to his family. The youngest of six children, his formal education stopped at age 12 when he had to go to work to help support four sisters after the Lyon children were orphaned. He began work as a lineman, working outdoors and climbing the poles. By the time of his retirement, in 1950, he had risen to become head of the Overhead & Underground Department of Commonwealth Edison Company in Chicago and also received an honorary degree from the Electrical Engineers. Lyon had a deep love and appreciation of the north woods. It is through this generosity and care for nature and its beauty that this scholarship has been made possible. FAFSA required prior to awarding decisions Eligibility Criteria Awarded to an undergraduate junior student in Conservation or Forestry with an interest or intent to pursue a vocation in the field of forestry. Preference given to a student graduating from high school in Washburn or Sawyer Counties. Second preference given to a graduate of a Wisconsin high school. Visit college program site"
